Caitlin Scannell - Riptide 17 White

In the early morning hours of Saturday, February 4, 2012 a car accident claimed the life of Riptide 17 White member Caitlin Scannell, as well as Campbellsport High School classmates - Katie Lynn Berg and Sabrina Renee Stahl.

Caitlin is the daughter of Tim and Jelaine Scannell, and is also survived by her two brothers, Ryan and Neil, and her sister Sheena. Caitlin was a member of the Campbellsport High School volleyball and soccer teams. On the soccer field, Caitlin had the joy of playing for her father, who serves as the varsity coach at Campbellsport. She was in her first season with Riptide Volleyball Club, after spending time previously with Waupun Breakout and Fond du Lac Fusion.

In addition to her atlhetic successes, Cailtin was a leader in the classroom and the community. She was ranked second in her class at Campbellsport High School, was a member of the Youth Leadership Program of Fond du Lac, and a Life Teen member at Shepard of the Hills Parrish. She volunteered much of her time in the community, including as an assistant coach for a fourth grade girls youth basketball team.

A scholarship fund has been set up in Caitlin's memory by her brother, Ryan. He had been saving to help Caitlin pay for college tuition, and in her passing has opened and endowment fund - The Caitlin Scannell Memorial Scholarship Fund. You can read more about his story here. Riptide Volleyball Club has established a pledge form for those families, clubs, businesses or community organizations that are interested in contributing to the scholarship fund in her memory. Riptide VBC will match the first $1,000 in donations that are returned with the pledge form. Your contributions to the fund are tax deductible, and will help Caitlin's memory live on.

Riptide Volleyball Club, our coaches and our staff express our deepest sympathy to the Scannell Family. The energy, joy, leadership, and maturity that Caitlin brought to the team and her friends will be missed.
